How to Forward Calls From RingCentral to AI Receptionist

As soon as you're signed up for Smith.ai and have completed setting up your AI Receptionist, follow the directions below to change the settings in your RingCentral account to ensure your calls are being forwarded correctly.

RingCentral allows users to forward all company calls, individual extension calls, or calls on a specific schedule. This article will cover all the different options based on your needs, but first, you need to get your Smith.ai phone number.

Getting your Smith.ai phone number

Go to the Call Handling page of your AI Receptionist dashboard: https://app.smith.ai/vr/call-handling/
Your Smith.ai Number is at the top of the page. Copy it as we'll use it later.
Follow the instructions below based on how you wish to forward your calls from RingCentral.

Follow these instructions, choosing “Forward to external number” and inputting your Smith.ai phone number.

Important tips:

Some users prefer to ring their personal cell number for 5–8 seconds, then fall back on their Smith.ai receptionists. If you choose to do this:
- Do not allow more than 10 seconds ring time to your cell phone. Even in this case, many callers may hang up before the call reaches the receptionists.
- Choose “Sequentially”, not “Simultaneously” for the option under “Phones Will Ring”
If your AI Receptionist has you as a transfer destination, the number must be different (e.g., transferred calls must go directly to your cell phone) than your main RingCentral number. Otherwise, it'll get stuck in an infinite loop!
