As soon as you're signed up for Smith.ai and have completed setting up your AI Receptionist, follow the directions below to change the settings in your Google Voice account to ensure your calls are being forwarded correctly.

Before you move forward, make sure you have your Smith.ai phone number handy.

Getting your Smith.ai phone number

  1. Go to the Call Handling page of your AI Receptionist dashboard:  https://app.smith.ai/vr/call-handling/
  2. Your Smith.ai number is at the top of the page. Copy it as we'll use it later.
  3. Follow the instructions below based on how you wish to forward your calls from Google Voice.

Forwarding calls from Google Voice to AI Receptionist

Google Voice may change its interface over time, so now we recommend just going to their instructions here to configure call forwarding rules:
Follow these instructions .

Important tips

  • Ensure that all devices are switched off in your Google Voice Settings. Your Smith.ai number must be enabled for forwarding.
  • Some users prefer ringing their cell first then failing over to the AI Receptionist. Google Voice doesn't currently support this directly.
  • If your AI Receptionist transfers to you, the transfer number must be different from the Google Voice main line or you'll create a loop.
