How to Forward Calls From Talkroute to Voice Assistant

If you're a Talkroute customer, you'll need to set up call forwarding to Smith.ai for the Voice Assistant to answer your calls.

Prerequisites


Getting your Smith.ai phone number

  1. Go to the Call Handling page of your Voice Assistant dashboard: https://app.smith.ai/vr/call-handling/
  2. Your Smith.ai Number is at the top of the page. Copy it, as we'll use it later. 
  3. Follow the instructions below based on how you wish to forward your calls from Talkroute.

How to forward calls from Talkroute to Smith.ai

Follow the directions from the Talkroute Help Center below to ensure your calls are being forwarded correctly:
  1. Login to your Talkroute account and find the settings section.
  2. Add your Smith.ai number by following these instructions on adding a forwarding phone number to a virtual phone number, menu option, or extension.
    IMPORTANT: You must uncheck “Enable Call Announcement & Talkroute Voicemail”
  3. Make sure to send the caller's caller ID to Smith.ai by following these instructions on changing the incoming caller ID. (Read more about why Smith.ai needs caller ID.)

How to set up Smith.ai for overflow answering on Talkroute


Using the sequential order configuration in Talkroute allows your in-house staff the first opportunity to answer a call before that call is sent to Smith.ai. This is often referred to as overflow answering.

How to set up a custom schedule for Smith.ai answering on Talkroute


Scheduled forwarding allows you to ring your phones based on a custom weekly schedule. 
Scheduled call forwarding is only available on some Talkroute plans
