How to have AI Receptionist handle your calls in Spanish

Overview

Need to better serve your Spanish-speaking clients? With Spanish Language Support for AI Receptionist, you can easily handle calls in Spanish—with just one setting in your dashboard. 

When enabled, your AI Receptionist will automatically switch to Spanish when your callers request it, and your call summaries will include both the original Spanish transcript and an English translation.

What Happens When Spanish Support Is Enabled

When Spanish Language Support is ON:

• AI Receptionist will advise your callers, in the greeting, that they may speak in Spanish if they prefer. 

• If your callers choose to engage AI Receptionist in Spanish, the entire call will be handled in Spanish.
• Your Call Summary will show the original verbatim transcript and an English-translated version.
  
  

When Spanish Language Support is OFF:

• Even if a caller asks to speak in Spanish, the AIR will stay in English.
  

Step-by-Step:

1. Log into your Smith.ai dashboard.

   
   
2. Click on Call Handling settings from the left-hand menu.
   
3. Scroll to find the Spanish Language Support checkbox.
   
4. Tick the checkbox to turn the feature ON.
   
   
5. A confirmation message will appear:
   ✅ “Spanish language support updated successfully”
   
6. That’s it! The setting is now saved and active.

What Will Change on Calls

Once enabled:

• The AIR’s greeting will include a Spanish statement, letting callers know they can speak in Spanish:
  "Puedes hablarme en español si lo preferieres."
• If the caller continues in Spanish, the AIR will respond accordingly.

Where You’ll See Transcripts

You'll find both a verbatim (Spanish) and a translated (English) version of the transcript in the call summary for each call, in your Dashboard.

This makes it easy to review and follow up, even if you’re not fluent in Spanish.
